Modifying a Subset of Projects in Bubble Chart Pro™

It is often useful to modify a group or subset of projects to be able to distinguish them from the other projects in a bubble chart. But instead of doing this one project at a time, Bubble Chart Pro™ let's you do this quickly using the “Modify Selection” form. In this example, we are going to select and modify the projects by Development Phase so we can easily track where they are in multiple column dimensions.

The “Custom Legend” shows that “Phase 2” projects have a red diagonal line as their legend key, so we are going to add that to the “Phase 2” projects.

1. Sort the projects by “Dev. Phase” by right-clicking (control-clicking on the Mac) the header of the “Dev. Phase” column to order the portfolio from lowest to highest “Dev. Phase.”

2. Select the “Phase 2” projects, and the [Modify] button becomes enabled.

3. Click the [Modify] button to display only the selected projects and open the Modify Selected Projects form. You can modify any project parameter (except the Project names) by using this form.

4. We’re going to add the “Phase 2” pattern to these projects. Click the [Use Color Pattern] checkbox to display the bubble color and pattern controls.

5. Click the [Modify Pattern] checkbox to enable the Pattern pop-up menu, and select “Phase 2” pattern for all the selected projects.

6. Click the [Modify Pattern Color] checkbox to enable the Pattern Color pop-up menu, and select the “Phase 2” color for all the selected projects using the adjacent button and the color-picker.

7. Click [Modify] to save the pattern and color change. Return to the Portfolio form and click [All] to display all the projects. All of the modified projects now display the “Phase 2” pattern in the picture column.

8. By making the pattern different, you can easily track that selection of projects when you create new bubble charts. For example, in the chart below, you can easily view where the different “Phase 2” projects are in relationship to the other projects.
