Form Overview

Use this form to import projects created or edited in Microsoft Excel® using an Import Template. This form is opened when you select the "Import Projects..." menu item of the "Portfolios" menu. This menu item is only active when you have an open portfolio in the frontmost window. The Import Template must have been created exclusively for that portfolio.

The form gives you two import options: append imported projects and project data to current projects or delete all current projects and replace with the imported projects. (Note: See also the Import Error forms for detailed information on the consequences of data errors on import operations.)

Important Note: The template must be in a tab-delimited text form to import. In Microsoft Excel, click "Save as..." in the Excel file menu to save as a tab delimited ".txt" file.

Import Projects to Portfolio Form Radio Buttons:

[Append to current projects] radio button: Selecting this radio button will allow the imported projects to be added to the current projects. If any of the current projects have the same names as the projects being imported, you will be asked if you want to overwrite the data in those projects (Figure 2). If you choose to overwrite those projects, the current color, pattern, and selected/unselected data are not changed.

Figure 2

Note that if projects have been deleted from the portfolio in the template, they will NOT be deleted from the portfolio using the "append" option as this option does not delete any current portfolio projects. For new projects being appended, "Selected" is the default parameter, different colors are assigned automatically for the first 254 projects (colors start to repeat after 254), and the default pattern is solid.

[Delete All current projects and replace with imported] radio button: Selecting this radio button will delete all the current projects in the portfolio and replace them with the imported projects. For the new projects, "Selected" is the default parameter, different colors are assigned automatically for the first 254 projects, and the default pattern is solid.

[Use random colors for new projects] radio button: Select this radio button to use random colors for any new projects. The random colors will be non-repeating for up to 254 colors.

[Use the same color for new projects] radio button: Select this radio button set each new project to the same color as selected in the color pop-up menu.

[Use random patterns for new projects] radio button: Select this radio button to use random patterns for any new projects. The random patterns will be non-repeating for up to 64 patterns.

[Use the same pattern for new projects] radio button: Select this radio button set each new project to the same pattern as selected in the pattern pop-up menu.
